About Us

History of the FBR

The Family Business Roundtable began as the Pittsburgh FFI (Family Firm Institute) in 1992. At that time its purpose was that of the FFI, to serve Family Business Advisors. In the late 1990’s the Pittsburgh chapter of the FFI transitioned to become the Family Business Roundtable of Pittsburgh. The mission of this “new” organization was to serve family businesses as well as family business advisors, by providing a unique resource that could connect the two. Thus began the Family Business Roundtable as we are today. Our mission is to provide education, support and networking to both family business as well as their advisors.

What is a "Family Business"?

We consider a family business to be any privately held firm. Why is that? Because anyone who has ownership in a privately owned firm knows that family is involved in some way. The business is topic for discussion at family meals, on weekends, and holidays—that business is a family business.
